I'm Cherie, Holistic Health Coach, essentials oils advocate and whole food enthusiast.
I grew up on a remote cattle and corn (maize) farm in Karoi, Zimbabwe, southern Africa, just 400km from the famous Victoria Falls and Zambezi valley. Mum and dad had a large vegetable garden, a banana plantation and orchard growing sweet navel oranges and grapefruits, lemons, guavas, mandarins, paw paws and incredibly large rich yellow juicy mangoes. Most of our food was home-grown and home-cooked, creatively and beautifully presented.
My joy in delicious home cooking comes from my mother and my granny Lydia. As a child, my siblings and I watched granny Lydia cook, and then we'd devour her home-baked seedy breads hot out of the oven, spread with dobs of butter and sweet honey, tea cakes, family roasts followed by dessert, often with fresh fruits such as one of my favourite, passion fruit. And I'll never forget dad's freshly ground cornmeal porridge served piping hot for breakfast with double-thick cream from our pet dairy cow, Susan.
Tea-time was always an occasion, often joined by neighbouring farmers, when mum would serve freshly baked scones and jam or an unusual, interesting delicious cake. It is no wonder I'm inspired to create tea cakes and sweet treats.
As well as my mother's beautiful garden, built around her love of flowers, this introduced me to the power and beauty of medicinal plants such as lavender, mint, rosemary and geranium, and later, I was to incorporate this knowledge into my adult life.
Before leaving Africa, I forged a career in sales and marketing and co-owned and managed two successful enterprises, one a whole foods muffin business. Later, seeking more knowledge, I studied with and graduated from the Institute of Integrative Nutrition New York, became a certified Health Coach, and started a business that fully embraces my values.
Twenty years ago I married Gordon, the kindest, funniest and fairest person I know, and whose term of endearment for me, is 'Cherry'. We've lived in five countries and on four continents over the past 18 years while I've been a stay-at-home, work-at-home mum to our two girls.
I've been choosing natural options, instead of conventional ones for decades. I'm devoted to simple living, not over-scheduling, using natural remedies, creating natural products, preparing real food for my family, enjoying cups of tea with friends, eating home-made chocolate eclairs, bushwalking, yoga, photography and viewing elephants roaming free and safe in the wild. My dream escape is to hit the road in a luxury caravan - a modern day Gypsy boho-style caravan would complete the dream. I love the outdoors, swimming in the ocean, and to explore Australia's many incredible destinations.
I am on a mission to educate, empower and inspire families, just like yours and mine, on a journey towards whole health and wellness through essentials oils and real and whole foods. Nothing makes me feel better, think better, look better than whole foods. I never count calories or worry about my weight because I know that if I eat this way, my body will be in a perfect state of balance and health, naturally. I want to share delicious, simple recipes made from scratch with fresh ingredients. I hope you enjoy them!
